More about Latium (Lazio) Vacation Rentals
Though Lazio is, of course, associated with Italy’s capital and largest city, Rome, it is also home to several other fascinating areas. To the west of Lazio, for instance, lie several sandy Mediterranean beaches, while the east and the south are dotted by hills and mountains, the majority of which are volcanic in origin. The area is also home to the famed Tiber valley, as well as to the Bolsena, Vico and Bracciano lakes. Best of all, several small hamlets and towns surrounding Rome can also be explored, and each offers a fascinating glimpse into Roman, and, by extension, European history. That’s why travelers have traditionally flocked to Lazio vacation rentals as a means of experiencing the history and beauty this region is known for.
Deciding on the Right Lazio Vacation Rental
With such a diverse area, the first thing you’ll want to do when choosing a Lazio vacation rental is to decide where you want to stay. As mentioned, Rome is the primary reason why most people visit Lazio, and if you’re planning on spending all your time within the city itself, then your best bet is to go with a Rome vacation rental . But, if you’re looking to save a little money and stay off the beaten track, then you can certainly stay in one of the surrounding cities or towns, like Campagnano di Roma or even Vatican City, which is an especially popular choice if you plan on spending a great deal of time in the UNESCO heritage site, exploring the Vatican Gardens and St. Peter’s Square. Or you can stay in Tivoli, which is even older than Rome and which features world-renowned gardens. The choice is yours.
Car Rentals and Lazio Vacation Rentals
Depending on which Lazio vacation rental you choose, you may or may not need a rental car. If you’re staying in Rome itself, then a rental car is probably not necessary, as public transportation can take you to pretty much any part of the city, some of which is pedestrian-only anyway. The same can be said of Vatican City, as most of your time there will be spent on foot. Lazio is also very well serviced by railways, so day excursions to other cities and areas can be arranged easily and relatively cheaply. If you’re staying a little further from Rome, though, such as in Tivoli, then a car rental will afford you a good degree flexibility, although busses do link these areas to Rome as well.
