Vacation Rental Commission for Travel Agents

Before a vacation rental is listed on the Travel Rental Network website, we ensure that the owner/manager is willing to work with travel agents and pay a commission for any travelers they refer. The amount of commission may vary between properties, but typically, travel agents will earn 10% commission when they book a vacation rental for a client through the Travel Rental Network website.

Calculating the Commission on a Vacation Rental

Once you've narrowed your search down to the vacation rentals that meet your clients’ needs, all you have to do is inquire about the date and price and make sure that the rental terms will be favorable for the client. We make it easy to contact the owner via email or by phone - you choose. You can negotiate the exact commission with the owner and all the owners who list their vacation rentals on the Travel Rental Network website agree to pay commission to travel agents and are comfortable with that.

Typically, the commission will be 10% of the advertised rates for the travel rates you are booking and is deducted from the payment to the owner, not added to the price for the traveler. For example, if a property advertises a weekly rate of $1000, then the travel agent's commission would be $100 and the owner would be paid $900 for the week. The traveler would pay a total of $1000. All this should be discussed and clarified with the owner before booking the property.

Collecting and Making Payment

Once the rental agreement is finalized, all that remains is to collect the payment. As the Travel Agent, you would collect the entire payment (rental price plus commission), keep your commission, and remit the balance to the vacation rental owner according to the terms of the rental agreement. Usually, owners will require a deposit up front and the balance upon arrival. If you only collect a percentage up front from the traveler, then you may choose to prorate your commission accordingly but this is entirely between you and your client.
