A brief description: High on a plateau, the villa, beautifully furnished with wide viewing terraces, rises 3 floors above 5 acres of pristine jungle and a beautifully landscaped orchard with bananas, pineapples, orange, grapefruit and many other fruit species. Distant views of the Pacific and looming mountains. Well off the main roads, halfway between the tourist town of Quepos and the island-studded beaches off Manuel Antonio National Park.

Villa Tekla is on acreage and thus offers complete privacy.

  Nearby beaches are within and outside one of Costa Rica's most beautiful parks. Villa Tekla is midway (3 km) between Quepos, a tourist town, and the park entrance. Views from the patio and upper floor take in jungle, green-clad hills, and the sweep of the Pacific. Much of our 5 acres has been planted with rare, flowering hardwoods, and provides a reserve for birds, playful capuchin and squirrel monkeys that comb the canopy for fruit, nuts and insects. Plus coatis, sloths, tree iguanas, anteaters, squirrels, colorful frogs and geckos, and other fauna that visit from the National Park.

Broadband wi-fi is free for those bringing laptops or notebooks. The pool area is right next to the house and its patio areas are extensively tiled. The pool has a deep end, at six feet, and is intended not just for play but exercise. Young children must not swim unattended. The main floor is open-air and open-space, but well-protected by decorative Spanish grillwork. Lonas (rain blinds) may be lowered in the event of heavy tropical rain. The downstairs floor is entirely screened in, and comes with a separate entrance and an en suite.. The maid and gardener come twice a week, at our cost, as well as the pool overseer. The gardener will from time to time offer ripe bananas, pineapples, papayas and other seasonal fruit from our orchards. Tools and other gardening supplies are kept in a locked bodega, near the gate. That gate should be locked each evening for your comfort and security. Within the house, three secure lockups are available for valuables.

Support a healthy, green environment: We are contributors to several environmental organizations and particularly invite naturalists, birders, and those concerned with keeping our planet green and healthy, and support the Costa Rican government's initiatives to this end. Thus we offer a 15% discount to other such supporters. We have lived part time in Costa Rica since 1980, and can help renters with most if not all of their travel plans and we have a wide knowledge of the country's tourist areas, parks, and particularly local attractions, as well as the social and political issues of Costa Rica. Renters should not hesitate to ask questions. For those interested in flora and fauna: coatis, sloths, tree iguanas, anteaters, squirrels, colorful frogs and geckos, and other fauna visit from the National Park. At night the lawn below the house twinkles with fireflies. Wake up to the reverberant trumpeting of howler monkeys, to a serenade of tanagers, thrushes and flycatchers, and colorful songsters galore. The main bathrooms have all towels and accessories and mirrors. Very large tub-shower in the main floor bathroom. Bathroom 3 is essentially an outdoor shower which we ask guests to use to wash off sand from the beaches before entering the house. There is also an additional outdoor shower poolside.

Rates for Christmas, Easter and Spring Break weeks may be extra depending on length of stay.

This house is owned by Canadian psychologist, Tekla Deverell and novelist William Deverell (www.deverell.com). Rates are reduced for artists, writers, long-term guests, and for members of pro-environment, naturalist, and birders groups. Twice-weekly maid and gardening services are included, as are all utilities including cable TV and high-speed wi-fi and pool maintenance services.

Rates are subject to change without notice. A damage deposit of $200 is payable on arrival.
